Column One: Gemini - the relationship between spirit and form. H, Li, Na,K.
The elements on the left of the Periodic Table are Cations. In column one there is one extra electron in the outermost reactive orbit, so this column is the most reactive of the cations. As we go down the colum the atomic weight increases, the electron is further from the nucleus, and even more reactive. A pre-egoic, pre-rational stage.
Hydrogen
Prajnaparamitra Sutra. Impermanance. This moment. New Beginnings.
The spectroscopy of the heavens shows the enormous prevalence everywhere of hydrogen, but hydrogen is merely the primordial positive and negative electrons tied together, or in process of being so tied.

  • Benevolence
Lithium
Carbonate of Lithium is a white light powder. A great characteristic of Lithium is soreness. Like Hamamelis, bones, joints and muscles feel bruised as from fall or blows. Even the eyeballs feel sore. Symptoms, which indicate this drug, are, rheumatic soreness in cardiac region, a trembling and fluttering sensation of heart after mental agitation and induration of aortic valves.

Rubrics; Mind
  • CONFUSION, standing, while
Sodium; The Natrums
Natrums in the Repertory, Small Rubrics Close Essence: Grieving over tragic events, that just goes on and on, beyond what would be considered normal. Stuck. "Wants to be alone to cry". "Very much inclined to weep and be excited". There are even tears with laughter.
  • Joyless, indifferent, taciturn.
Natrum Carbonicum; Na.CO3IOH2O. (not Bicarb', NaHCO3).
Repertory Window: [Nat-c][Nat-ar]

Nat.carb personalities seem to combine the mild and loving character of Calc with the sensitivity of Nat.m.

  • Marked degree of gaiety. Joyous talkativeness.
Natrum Arsenicicum: Hydric, di sodic arsenate. Na2 HAsO4 12 H20.

There is the restlessness of Arsen.; and the thirst, and also the chilliness, with the hot head and headache agg by heat.

  • Nervous restlessness.
Natrum Phosphoricum; Phosphate of Soda. Hydric Disodic Phosphate. Na2HPO4, 12H2O.
  • Memory lost.
Natrum Sulphuricum ; Glauber's Salt. Na2SO4.

Clarke; The action of the Sodium sulphate is contrary to that of the Sodium chloride. Both, indeed, have the faculty of attracting water, but the end is a contrary one. In consequence of the activity excited by Nat. sul. in the epithelial cells in the urinary canals, superfluous water with the products of the tissue changes, dissolved or suspended therein, flows into the kidneys.

  • Sadness; inclined to weep.
Potassium ;
New Window: Kalis in the Repertory, Small Rubrics.

Potassium Carbonate. K2Co3. Solution.

Kali Carbonicum, sometimes called "vegetable alkali," because it is found in plants. It can be obtained from the ashes left from burning wood and other organic plant matter.

  • Sadness with tears.
KALI BICHROMICUM: Potassium Bichromate, K 2 Cr 2 O 7

Repertory Window: [kali-s] [kali-br] Kali bi. causes great prostration, discomfort, debility, and desire to lie down. The neuralgic attacks sometimes recur every day, at the same hour.

  • Ill humour; low spirited. Listless.

Kali Iodatum

Clarke points out that it has an important Syphallitic assosiation. Kali theme: There is great concern about security and stability. Relationships at work are emphasized.

  • Talkative and full of jokes.
  1. Rubrics, Mind; AILMENTS, from business failure, kali-br[1]
Column Two, Taurus - learning about form. Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba.
The Group II elements are dependant and desire support. Berylliums in Row 1, have such an inferiority complex that they can't be themselves. This reaches the extreem with Barium, in Row 6, who is overwhelmed by his own incapacity. Corresponds to Piaget's Sensorimotor stage in infants or Preoperational Stage in children.
Berillium Beryl. Be3 Al2 Si6 018. Uncertainty. See J. Sherr.
  • Loss of weight
Magnesium and the Magnesium Salts

Magnesia carbonate; 3 (MgCO3) Mg(HO)2 4H2O. Mags Repertory Window:

Mag. c. has many points of contact with Gels., Cham. and Ars. in nervous irritation and sleeplessness. But the nervousness of Mag. c. is of the type of nerve exhaustion... "Water containing Magnesia and that coming from magnesian limestone districts is peculiarly soft to the feel. There is reason for supposing that this softness has a soothing effect upon the nervous system when used in the form of baths e.g., Buxton and Matlock in England." Indicated for "worn out women " that is, the state of nervousness induced by excess of the cares and worries of life.

  • Inquietude and fear, with trembling' and heat.
Magnesia Muriatica; MgCl2

Mag. m. first appeared in Hahnemann's Chronic Diseases. The general feature of Mag. c. appears in many symptoms, notably those of nervous disturbance and hysteria. Patient is anxious, restless, always agg by mental exertion; during or after dinner seized with nausea, eructations, trembling and faint spells, amel by eructations. Palpitation agg when quiet, amel moving about. Perversions of taste and smell are marked in Mag. iii., and I have frequently restored with it loss of taste and smell after influenza.

  • Excited; unhappy; fitful; emotional.
Magnesia Phosphorica; Hydric magnesia phosphate. (MgH PO47H2O.)

Hering says it is suited to: Young and very strong persons; teething children. Mien says that though it is best adapted to emaciated persons, it acts promptly in stout, fleshy persons when well indicated. The attacks (of pain, &c.) are often attended with great prostration, and sometimes with profuse sweat. "Languid, tired, exhausted; unable to sit up". Mag. p. is more often called for in men than Mag. c., but the indication, "worn out women," answers for both.

  • Mental depression and anxiety.
Calcera Carbonica; Repetory Link

Calcera is taken from the flesh of the Oyster. It manifests its energy in either mineral processes or in the life force seen in the Oyster itself. The characteristics of Calcera and the Carbonate can still be seen when combined. Calcera processes are slow and progressive.

  • Despondent and melancholy (Ign., Puls., Natr. mur.). Disinclination for every kind of work.
Strontium. Strontium Carb ~ Pains in the long bones. Bone affections: enlargement, osteoporosis and caries. Nervous dyspepsia. The connection to the skeletal system resembles Calc. Action on the vascular system resembles Barium.
  • Delusions, lifted during sleep, lifted up.
Barium
Baryata Carb. Ba CO3, with which are included symptoms of Baryta acetica Barium acetate Ba(C2H3O2)2

The paradox of Baryata is that it is in the Gold Series, so responsibility and authority are important, but they have serious lack of confidence, and give the impression of being a bit childish and naive. Compare to Calc. - retarded children who develop slowly, and remain dwarfed. Learn to speak or walk late. Spoilt children who cant fight their own battles. A teenage girl with dolls. The same fear of being laughed at.

  • Delusion, that he walks on his knees
Column Three, Scorpio - battle with desires (and life) :: Transition metals: Scandium and Ytirium
Scandium, on Row 4, One stage from Calcium ... Dr Sholten suggests there is a need to devlop and expand but it comes with an insecure feeling Yttrium, on Row 5, also needs to explore, but they dont follow through, perhaps they fear criticism. Piajet's Preoperational or early stages of Concrete Operational, or Ken Wilber's Rule/Role Self. See Also: Clare Graves.
Column Four, Scorpio - battle with desires (and life):: Transition metals: Titanium
Dr Scholten suggests that the next stage is putting yourself forward despite all the timidity. Titanium, Row 4, makes a start, applies for a job, but feels that failure is around the next corner. Failure looms like a chasm beneath his feet. Checking everything. Like Col 3, it suggests early Rule/Role Self, conforming to simple rule orientated roles. See Also: Clare Graves.
Column Five, Capricorn - objectifying purpose ... ambition :: Transition metals: Vanadium
They start their career with a mind full of doubt ... always planning, and tortured by fear of failure. The proovings suggest that the doubt and timidity lead to great efforts to compensate through achievement. This stage suggests more comfort with Piaget's Concrete Operational (Rule/Role[1]) Self. See also, Ref. 1: Clare Graves.
Column Six, Saggitarius - urge to gain experience :: Transition metals: Chromium, Chromic Acid.
They are slow. Achievement is very important. Feeling observed, like being on probation, is very daunting. They dream of defending their innocence. Tungsten are attatched/detatched. This suggests gaining mastery of the Concrete Operational (Rule/Role[1]) Self. Ref: Clare Graves.
Tungsten

Connection with feelings : Heart, Love, Family, etc. Disconnection with feelings : Indifferent, Detatched, Loss of Inhibition.

Rubrics:
  • Affectionate
Column Seven, B, Al, Mn., Virgo, Working on Self :: Transition Metals :
Borax and Alumina themes are indolence, paralysis and late development. There is not much fight in Alumina children. They are quite vague, this extends to the sense of identity. This manifests as a poor sense of boundaries in Borax, (she feels defenceless). This is a transition from the Concrete Operational (Rule/Role) Self to the Formal Operational/Achiever Self.
Boron

Borax Sodium biborate. Na2 B4 O7 10H2O.

In infancy there is often a poor sense of personal boundaries, even extending to the sense of identity. These are nervous children who are startled by the slightest noise, like a jet passing overhead. Very easily shaken.

Peevish and whining (Cham); obstinate (Bry., Nux v., Cham.); low-spirited (Puls.); dread of impending evil (Anac., Ars., Calc. c., Chin. sulph.).

  • Unpleasant news cause nervous tremors.
Manganese; Manganum

In the same series as B and Al, immature personalities, where boundaries are not fully developed. These guys are very closed, and unresponsive. They talk about "things" but give nothing of a personal nature away. You find yourself wondering if the actually is a person in there at all ... they'r just blank. Their persuits are frivolous too, little jobs, gardeners, tinkering with cars. Nothing that requires commitment, not even a home, they are always on the move. Maybe becoming so disorganised that they end up Dossing on someones couch. Poor ability to make sequential judgements may be a the root of it. Pot or L.S.D. problems?

  • Embittered mood, he doest forget wrongs. Fosters resentment for a long time.
Column Eight, Leo - Self-centering. :: Transition Metals Fe and Ru.,
Iron, born from Helium Fusion in Red Giants is the most stable element. Ferrum: (Rubric: Iron willed). Has to be right. Domineering. Ideals lead them into battle. In a Ferrum muriaticum state they persevere or force themselves against the opposition (Rubric: overtaxed), trying to attain a sense of durability. The Formal Operational (Achiever) stage.

Iron; Ferrum

Ferrum, the Mars of the alchemists, is one of the prominent constituents of the animal body, being present in considerable quantity in the blood.

  • Weakness, almost amounting to paralysis of the whole body and of single parts
Osmium

Rubrics
  • Deams of being busy and of fire.
Column Nine, Cancer - Arising above the personality. Transition metals: Co, Rh.

Cobalt, like Iron is produced in Red Giants. It is one of the most stable metals. They stick to their job despite a nagging expectancy of failure. This is the Formal, goal-orientated stage.

Cobaltum Prooving;

Feels condemned, as though guilty of something. Low spirited, thinks too little of himself. Vivacity and rapid flow of thought. Wishes to study, then dullness with aversion to mental exercise.

  • Pain occiput

Palladium

The Palladium character may be a show-off. Life revolves around praise and appreciation. Palladium is at the crosshair of Stage 10 and the Silver Series. Grasping Glitter and Glory. This seems to be reflected in the Rubrics. There seems to a balancing act going on. Haughtiness may alternate with a severe loss of confidence. "Pride comes before a fall". (Veratrum). Inclined to use forceful language. Time passes slowly. Disagreeable mood, tries to be amiable but feels she can't put up with anything.

  • Haughty, wishes to be flattered
Platinum

Cowperthwaite; Acts chiefly upon the nerve centers, depressing the sensorium, and producing in general a tendency to anaesthesia, torpor and paralysis, manifested mostly in women in deranged sexual health, hysterical conditions and melancholia. Illusions; everything around her is very small, and everybody inferior to her in mind and body. Arrogant, proud, haughty (Lach., Stram.); looks down with pitiful contempt on others. • Sadness
Column 11, Column 12, Aquarius - expansive and humanitarian :: C, Si, Cu, Ag, Au
Group IV, is relatively non-reactive, e.g. C and Si. This can translate into a nostalgia for traditional values in Graphites. This can develop into fixed ideas in Silica. Religious mania can develop in Aurum. Carbon can be produced in the Sun. Gold is created in a Super Nova. Late Vision/Logic Stage.

Carbon
Carbo Animalis

Issues centering around "me", "home" and security. Often found in older people, who, when isolated, have a longing for the past. The remedy is animal charcoal, which brings to mind a burnt-out, perhaps stagnant, state. They are often chilly and too feeble to experience either pleasure or pain.

  • Nostalgia and mournful feeling of isolation, with tears.
Graphites

Hahnemann was quick to perceive that Graph. was much more than a mere remedy for skin affections. Like that other great skin remedy, Sulphur, Graph proved to be a leading antipsoric. Hahnemann's provings and observations defined its powers over skin affections. The mind, like the skin could be described as thick, hard and difficult to penetrate, as if a barrier prevents outside influences penetrating - the opposite of Phos. Dullness. When thinking is blunt there is irresolution. They tend to adopt traditional values and the family is their bedrock of life. This makes them good carers. A person needing Grapites may have memory loss.

Its special characteristic is; "Eruptions oozing out a thick, honey-like fluid".
  • Despair over trifles
Petrolium: Crude. Rock Oil.

The charactersistics of excitability along with irresolution may mean that they can get stuck in a groove. Hahnemann: "He knows not how to stop talking about a thing". "Scattered" and "Divided" may imply some deep confusion or unresolved issue. Acts especially upon the skin and mucous membranes, producing irritation. Follows Nit-ac, soothing the emotions.

  • Feeling of helplessness

Silica. Pure Flint.

Clarke;
Sil. has another link with insanity in its aggravation at the moon's phases : epilepsy and sleep walking are agg at the new and full moon. The Sil. patient likes to be magnetised, and is amel by it. This is related to the persistent want of vital heat which characterises the Sil. condition ; even exercise will not get up any warmth.

Rubrics:

  • Magntised, desires to be.

Argentum

Symptoms such as dullness, poor memory, difficulty thinking and prostration from mental exertion.

Acts prominently upon the mucous membranes of the digestive, respiratory and genito-urinary tracts.

  • Restlessness, which forces one to walk quickly.
Silver Nitrate: Arg Nit.

Rubrics
  • Delusions, everyone must hurry.
Cuprum

Kent; Pre-eminently a convulsive medicine. The convulsive tendency associates itself with almost every complaint that Cuprum creates and cures. It has produced a variety of mental symptoms: delirium incoherency of speech loss of memory. It has a great variety in its delirium incoherent prattling taking of all sorts of subjects incoherently.

  • Want of moral courage.
Aurum

  • Aggravation from contradiction, with an impulse to kill

Column 13, Aires - Struggle with will :: Ga, In, Th. Gallium, Indium and Thallium
Gallium stubbornly holds on to their position and routine. Thallium has spasmodic attacks. As in Col 12, they are irritable and violent on the mental level. Tin
Stannum is the Jupiter of the alchemists. "The ancients have recorded wonderful cures of the most serious diseases with Tin," says Hahnemann

The weakness of Stan. makes it an appropriate remedy for many states of neurasthenia, nervous exhaustion. A peculiarity of the weakness is that it is felt much more on going down stairs than on going up.

The three are very similar:
  • Silent melancholy and dejection.

Column 15, Pisces - Sacrifice :: N, P, As, Sb, Bi.
Disconnection. The common theme is being unloved and alone. The tendancy to form relationships is less as we go down the Column. Eg Antimonium clings to anyone. Bisthmutum want only mommy. Older people may fear the disconnection forced by retirement.
Nitrogen One of the main industrial uses is in fertilisers where the Nitrogen is obtained from Ammonia (NH3) or Nitric Acid (HNO3). Prooving: Proover 1, 30c.
  1. Irritable, anxious. Intolerant all day.
Nitric Acit [Nit-ac]

More severe Disconnection: Group VI have to make a massive effort to make meaningful relationships, e.g. Sulph. Selinium is averse to certain people, Tellurium Neglects everything. On the other hand in older people, the Sensitive philosophical self is developing.
Oxygen

Ozone decomposition:. Light + O3 --> O + O2 i.e., O3 + O --> O2 + O2.

Oxygen compounds such as Oxides of Metals, and Acids show signs of burn-out or exhaustion. A Phos. Student who burns out may enter a Phosphoric Acidum state.

  • Irritation and Aggressivness, even Maliciousness.
Sulphur

Sulphur throws things out, like the Vital Force itself, it has a centrifugal energy. There is heat, fire and volcanic action in Sulphur, and like a volcano we also see images of smoldering, decay and extinction. In molecular biology, disulphide bonds, (-S-S-) hold polypeptide chains in shape. Without these bonds, the DNA helix, ezymes etc, would be mush! Decomposing Sulphur compounds smell awful! (Sulphur skin problems are yellow, creamy and smell of rotten eggs!)

Disturbances that affect the sense of identity result in compensation, an effort to cope with the situation

  • AILMENTS FROM - embarrassment

Disconnection. Group VII have been let down or betrayed. There is a tendancy to from unstable relationships. Flourine wants to escape from the responsibility of his wife and family. Iodum, the heaviest is averse to company. Older people preferr their own company.
Flourine

Kent Says; Fluoric acid is suitable in that state like Picric acid and Sepia and these medicines are particularly suited to that condition of enfeeblement of the mind and that disorder of the human economy that makes man so low that we have the state described as low mindedness. It takes that form in one who is a sort of debauch running after all sorts of things to tickle his fancy but it takes another form in a man who stays at home with his good wife.

Mind; Unique
  1. Mind; delusions, imaginations; betrothal, engagement must be broken:, fl-ac[1]
Chlorine; Chlorum; A yellowish-green gas, which is soluble in water. Choudary; Its action is particularly marked on the respiratory organs and is, therefore, indicated in many affections of the respiratory tracts, such as spasmus glottidis, coryza, aphonia, spasmodic cough, and asthma. Repertory,

Uniqe:

Bromium

Tyler: In Bromism the skin is first involved, with papules like acne. Then comes a lowering of cutaneous sensibility and of the pharynx with loss of powers, general and sexual. The intellect is dulled: the patient is depressed, easily fatigued and unfit for work. The higher functions of the brain are depressed, before the lower - " in the reverse order of physiological development of the functions -(the Law of Dissolution)".

Mind;

Helium

We call the horizontal series the periods; at the beginning stands a period with only two elements, hydrogen, H, and helium, He; then follows two periods of eight, then two periods of eighteen, then a period of thirty-two. After the great period of thirty-two elements there follows an incomplete period of six remaining elements.

Helium is a very stable structure.
